About us

Cabinteely GAA was founded in 1977 and since then has provided an outlet for mainly boys and mens gaelic games (gaelic football and hurling) mostly with players drawn from the Cabinteely, Johnstown, Cherrywood, Ballybrack, Loughlinstown and nearby Killiney areas of Dublin, Ireland.

The club has a strong ethos of providing access to gaelic games for all, with a low cost membership model, ready access to affordable equipment, and an open door policy of access to all family, cultural and nationality backgrounds and ability levels.

The Club was formed in 1977 and plays its fixtures in Kilbogget Park where its clubhouse also stands. It neighbours other local sporting clubs in the park such as Cabinteely FC and Seapoint Rugby.

The Clubhouse was officially opened in September 1994, with Kerry legends Denis 'Ogie ' Moran and Eoin 'Bomber' Liston guesting for Cabo in a challenge match v Bray Emmets.

In 2004 the increasingly large girls section of the club joined up with Foxrock Girls Gaelic Club to form a separate dedicated Ladies Football club, Foxrock Cabinteely - the senior team went from strength to strength and on to achieve unprecedented success, becoming one of the most successful ladies football team in the county, the province and the island.

Cabinteely GAA had a long tradition of hurling and football teams at all age levels, however the number of teams significantly reduced down to solely the mens football team in the early 2000s. This time period also included amalgamations with Shankill Gaelic Football Club in the early 2000s (Shankill successfully reconstituted on a standalone basis as Shankill GAA in recent years) and the Microsoft team St Francis Gaels in 2006.

A rejuvenation occurred in 2018 when we teamed up with the already highly successful Foxrock Cabinteely ladies football Academy to provide a joint Academy which catering for both girls and boys.   This has since evolved with the greater numbers (and covid challenges!) to back to back football academies on Saturday morning (Cabinteely GAA at 9am, and FoxCab GAA at 10am) and a Cabinteely GAA Hurling academy on Thursday evenings at 6pm.

This work led in 2020 to under 8s football and hurling teams competing again in the Dublin Go Games League.
